Media Access Project- One year on

Shmu have been delivering the Media Access Project in HMP & YOI Grampian since June 2015. In that time the project has gone from strength to strength and we have had a number of successful achievements including:

7 Participants receiving a full Level 5 SQA in Radio Broadcasting and 10 receiving a partial award.

14 Participants receiving a full Level 5 SQA in TV Production and 8 receiving partial awards.

4 Participants in our Music Technology Course winning Koestler Awards.

Establishing an Editorial Team for our magazine 'Way Out' which is due to be published later in the month.

Several participants of courses moving on to Advanced User sessions to produce their own music, radio shows and films.

We have celebrated the achievements of our course participants at three Graduation ceremonies which have all been well attended by prisoners, SPS staff, and the shmu staff and tutors who work for the project. The Graduations were a great way of a showcasing the skills that the participants learned from the courses. This included clips from films and radio shows they produced and some live music performances.

We continue to engage with several participants after their release and have eight participants in the community who have come back to shmu to volunteer, make radio shows or produce music.
