shmu are currently recruiting for a prestigious BFI Film Academy short course taking place at shmu HQ in Woodside, Aberdeen from this September.

Aged 16 to 19?
Live in Aberdeen or the North East of Scotland?
Passionate about film?

Then this course is for you! No previous filmmaking experience is needed - just a passion for film.

Our Introductory Course is free to attend, with bursaries available to help cover travel and other costs.

What you'll do

Over 16 days, you'll join a community of aspiring filmmakers and work together to create, produce and screen a short film while developing practical filmmaking skills.

Explore idea generation, screenwriting and story pitching

Learn hands-on cinematography, sound recording, directing and editing

Build confidence, make industry connections and work as part of a creative team

See your finished short film on the big screen
