shmu volunteers’ song chosen for recovery digital mural project

‘Walk the World’ written by Create-Express-Transform group which included the late Angie Joss

As part of our Create-Express-Transform project in 2021, participants Tim, Alan, Kevin and the late, much-missed, Angie Joss worked together with our Freelance Music Facilitator Grace Dale to create the song 'Walk the World'. The group came together to share what was important to them and the lyrics of the song were based on equality and unity. Listen to the song here

We felt it was a beautiful piece of music and were delighted to hear it had been chosen to be included in a new REC-PATH Digital Mural Project.

For the past few months, members of the Recovery Pathways community, including some of the original research participants from the REC-PATH research study, have been coming together and gathering up media and artwork to create a giant digital mural with nearly a hundred blogs, workbooks, podcasts, videos, slides and artworks all in one place.

Grace said of the songwriting process: "Music allows you to express yourself in ways that you may have not explored before. Group song writing can bring people together and is a great way to hear the thoughts and feelings of others.

"It can be a cathartic way to help with the recovery process. Expressing yourself and hearing how others express themselves is a lovely way to support each other through recovery. Music is fun too! There is no right or wrong - just a space to be yourself."

We know Angie would have been proud that the song she helped create is part of such a project.

The mural also includes the film 'Finding My Way' & song 'If Anyone Tells You', both created by Aberdeen in Recovery participants as part of the Create-Express-Transform project.

The Create-Express-Transform project is supported by the Inspiring Scotland Creative Communities Fund.
