Band of the Week: Alkanes

May's first Band of the Week is alt-rock/alt-metal trio Alkanes! If you're a fan of Biffy Clyro, Arcane Roots, early Muse or just good riffs, this show is not to be missed. 

With a particular focus on big, dynamic riffs and drawing influence from bands such as Arcane Roots, Oceansize and Fightstar, Alkanes have developed a sound of their own.

Forming in 2014, they hit the ground running and have shared the stage with some of the UK’s finest up and coming acts in the rock and metal scene including Carnivores, Axis Of, Emilio Largo, Bear Arms and ACODA. The band also headlined The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen in September 2015.

We feel like this quote sums things up rather nicely: "If you’re looking for music made by people who want to break away from the often stagnant genres of rock and metal, and are not afraid to experiment, then Alkanes are the band for you." - 57 Degrees North

The band’s debut EP ‘A Different Kind Of Perfect’ was released in March, and you can hear it and the band on shmuFM on May the 9th on the Band of the Week Show by tuning in to 99.8fm or listening online from 8-10pm. You can also request it on any of our live shows, by getting in touch with the studio.
