Band of the Week: Kathryn Joseph

Singer-songwriter Kathryn Joseph features on shmuFM

This week, our featured artist on shmuFM is Kathryn Joseph! You can hear her throughout the entire week on our Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Cruise Control shows, and you can also catch her on the Band of the Week Show on Monday the 19th of January, which broadcasts from 8-10pm.

Prodigiously talented and criminally underrated; Kathryn Joseph is one of Scotland's best-kept secrets. She is an artist in every way: unique and soulful, and at the core a beautiful unnerving truth. Kathryn’s debut album "Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled" paints a delicately moving, at times visceral, but always intricately beautiful description of her life until now.

Lyrically compelling and sonically stunning, her album evokes a stark, cinematic journey. It was captured predominantly live in just a week by Scottish music industry veteran Marcus Mackay (Frightened Rabbit, Snow Patrol). Those lucky enough to catch her at one of her rare performances are sure to be captivated, moved and perhaps a little disturbed.

You can hear any of Kathryn's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.

EDIT: Kathryn performed her song "The Bone", with an adorable toy piano, in a captivating performance. The track is available to listen to here:
