Band of the Week: Katie Mackie

Alt singer-songwriter features on shmuFM

This week on the 57° North Band of the Week Show, we're featuring local alternative singer-songwriter Katie Mackie! You can hear her live on the shmuFM on Monday the 5th of September from 8-10pm. You'll hear her new EP, her influences, how she goes about production and songwriting and much more - even a live set!

Katie Mackie is a local alternative singer-songwriter who has been singing and playing piano since she was in primary school, and knew that she wanted to do music from a young age. She gigs around Aberdeen in bands and as a solo artist, and has been lucky enough to support artists such as Fatherson, Fickle Friends and The Little Kicks.

Katie’s brother is a big inspiration to her, and encouraged Katie to play and not to follow the crowd with my music. That's why she took the pop route, as it's something she’s been interested in and loves to play. She has now released one EP and hopes to put out another this year. Katie currently studies an HND in music at NESCOL, and says she can “feel myself improving as a musician every day and with each gig I learn more and more about the industry”.  Her goal as a musician is to please herself and others with her music by being creative and inspiring others to do the same – “music can be as daring and different as you want it to be.”

If you like what you hear, you can request any of Katie's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing
