A choice of two free training sessions this Wednesday

Blogging and music journalism sessions available this week

We have two exciting FREE courses to choose from tomorrow (Wednesday 27th November).

There is a session on blogging taking place at Seventeen (used to be One-Up on Belmont Street) from 6-8pm. It's aimed at novices and will take you through the basics of blogging during an interactive two-hour session.

This session will be led by Eoin Smith, who is a well-known Aberdeen-based blogger and founder of Hercules Moments, as well as a rather cracking magician (magic tricks not guaranteed). It is the third in a series of workshops which are part of our link-up with a project centred on developing citizen journalists in 2014 - the year the Commonwealth Games come to Scotland.  The classes are informal and all are welcome.

The final session in the series is on social media and takes place on Wednesday 11th December - also 6pm at Seventeen.

At the same time, in the same building, but on the lower floor, we still have a few places available on the 57 Degrees North Music Journalism Training Course. This fun and involving 4-week course is also FREE, because we're just really nice people.

The course looks at writing, research, networking, blogging, interview technique, gig reviews, radio and podcasting - so there's plenty to learn from our expert team.

It has been developed by shmu's Stevie Kearney, who has been involved in music journalism and radio since 2007 and spent 4 years as the Scotsman's New music Correspondent in Edinburgh, Manchester and Aberdeen. He is joined by John Anderson, who founded and ran legendary Aberdeen music/arts website The Kiosque and now works on 57º North.

The music journalism training is funded by Aberdeen City Council's Cultural Grant Awards.

To sign up, email stevie@shmu.org.uk or just come along at 6pm tomorrow. No experience necessary - just a love of music and puns in headlines.
