shmuFM Band of the Week: Malfunction

Local punk rock four-piece on shmuFM

This week on shmuFM, our featured band is Malfunction - you can hear them live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 28th of July from 8-10pm, where you'll hear some of their studio tracks, get to know the band and their past, their influences/inspirations, and what they're up to at the moment.

Malfunction is a four-piece punk rock band, first formed in Kincorth in 1981. The band gigged around the North East until they disbanded in the mid-80s. Influenced by the early punk bands like The Clash, The Ruts and The Buzzcocks, the band gigged around Aberdeen in the early eighties at venues like 62 Club and the Cobweb – family and work commitments led to the band calling it a day,

However, the members kept in touch and always talked about reforming, which they did 20 years later, around 7 years ago. They started jamming as a three piece, and eventually they started recording again and re-recruited their old rhythm guitarist for a heavier sound – which is the sound you hear today.

2014 sees the band busy writing and recording songs for their 2nd album, which should be released late summer.

As well as the Band of the Week Show, you can hear Malfunction's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
