shmuFM Band of the Week: Nicky Aiken

This week's shmuFM Band of the Week is Nicky Aiken.

Nicky is a local singer-songwriter who started off a band called "HurricaneButterfly" in early 2007. The band had great success with their first EP "Strange New Light" and gigged around Scotland until they split up in 2008.

Nicky then went solo later that year under the name Nicky Powel, in 2009 he started taking the solo thing a bit more seriously and managed to get some great acoustic support slots, he then got a band to back him and has played “like mad” since their first live date in October 2009.

In late 2012 he started experimenting with a raw sound and created a new project which later became “Strange Skies” – whatever he writes that doesn’t fit Strange Skies becomes solo material. Nicky has a new EP out and is already planning 2014 releases for both his solo material and Strange Skies.
