BFI Academy 2020 - Apply Now!

Aged 16-19? Passionate about film? Want to work in the film industry?

Applications are now open for our next BFI Film Academy in Aberdeen. The course is open to young people aged 16-19 living in the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area and is made possible with funding the BFI and Creative Scotland. It will run weekly from September 2020 until February 2021 - find out more here.
Building on the success of the last six years, shmu is once again working in partnership with the British Film Institute (BFI), Creative Scotland, North East Scotland College (NESCol) and the Belmont Filmhouse to deliver Aberdeen’s seventh BFI Film Academy course.

As a participant on the course, you will:

  • Receive high quality training in screenwriting, directing, production, sound recording, editing, cinematography and marketing from one of the UK’s leading film education organisations

  • Explore your own creativity and passions in a supportive and dynamic environment

  • Have access to masterclasses delivered by respected practitioners working in the industry

  • Watch a range of cinema from British independent to specialised films

  • Work in teams to produce short films, culminating in a showcase screening at the Belmont Filmhouse

The deadline for applications is Friday 4th September 2020, although we would encourage those who are interested to apply as early as possible.
