shmu intro sessions in full sing!
Since the launch of the shmu ‘intro sessions’, the past few weeks have been extremely busy for our outreach team. Over the past few weeks, shmu have worked to bring intro sessions to several groups, with more signing up every week.
In Northfield, shmu went to visit the over 55’s group at Northfield Community Centre, who enjoyed their session immensely. An art group, based at the Middlefield Community Project, came and visited our studios for their session. Next stop for the team was Printfield and the staff team at the Printfield Community Project. Another beneficiary of this new initiative was the Lighthouse group, based in the Tillydrone Shopping Centre. All of the sessions so far have been a great success with each group recording their own jingles, which are played out on shmuFM.
This week, local vocalists from the Cummings Park Community Flat singing group were the lucky recipients of a shmu takeover session and had great fun recording their jingle, being aired on shmuFM this week. Continuing the trend towards activities and projects, this group have a truly intergenerational sound, with Grandmother, Mother and Daughter (pictured above) enjoying the opportunity to meet new people and sing purely for the love of it at their weekly group.
The important work we do at station house media unit (shmu) through digital media and community media development is open to everyone and we would like to hear from local services, projects and organisations within the seven regenerations of Aberdeen.
The shmu 30 minute 'intro sessions' is an interactive information session on everything that we can offer here at Station House. This is a brilliant opportunity for groups who would otherwise struggle to be heard or gain any coverage locally. We are happy to deliver our intro session to staff teams, active groups of all ages, service users and anyone else who wants to find out more about your local media organisation.
shmu is supported by Aberdeen City Council as one of the core cultural organisations in the city, and is at the forefront of Community Media development in Scotland. We support residents in the seven regeneration areas of Aberdeen in radio and video production, traditional and on-line publications, music production and digital inclusion. The organisation also supports other disadvantaged communities, both geographic and communities of interest, with our employability and training arm. We have also developed ADJUST, a programme for offenders, both pre and post release.
