Koestler Exhibition Entries

The 2019 Koestler Awards opened for submissions in February and HMP & YOI Grampian in partnership with MAP and Fife College supported prisoners to submit their work.

Radio Course Number 9 Completed at HMP Grampian

Over the past 12 weeks, nine participants have been taking part in the Radio Broadcasting course at the creative media unit in HMP Grampian. The national progression award in Radio Broadcasting at SCQF level 5 is an introduction to radio production. Shmu & SPS staff support the prisoners through the course, giving them skills in radio broadcasting. It is made up of four units;

Media Access Project- One year on

Shmu have been delivering the Media Access Project in HMP & YOI Grampian since June 2015. In that time the project has gone from strength to strength and we have had a number of successful achievements including:

7 Participants receiving a full Level 5 SQA in Radio Broadcasting and 10 receiving a partial award.

Koestler Trust Award

The Koestler Trust is a charity who supports prisoners to take an active role in the arts with a view to encouraging them to make a move away from re-offending. Their aims are:

To help offenders, secure patients and detainees lead more positive lives by motivating them to participate and achieve in the arts.

Conference Invitation

Following on from the successful and well attended workshop led by MAP staff at the Criminal Justice Social Work Scotland Conference in October 2015, the team have been asked to run workshops to a wider Social Work audience again in June this year. The audience will be made up of Social Work Managers from throughout the country.
