Positive Transitions
What is Positive Transitions?
shmuTrain now deliver SDS funded Employability Fund courses at both stage 2 and stage 3 of the employability pipeline. Our course, Positive Transitions, is open to young people aged 16-25 living in both Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.
Our stage 2 Positive Transitions course is a 12 week employability & skills development course which incorporates community media training to increase core skills and support young people into education, employment or training. Radio, video and digital music production are used to engage and motivate young people, as well as help to develop confidence, communication and team work skills. Employability sessions cover job search skills, CV's, industry sectors, body language and interview skills with the aim of securing a positive destination. Young people also benefit from a week long work experience and a number of employer visits to get a real taste of the working environment.
Our stage 3 course use the same principles as the stage 2 course but is aimed at those a little closer to the world of work, as such we focus on honing employability skills over a concentrated 4 week period before sending our young people out on a 6 week work placement. During these 6 weeks young people check in with shmu weekly for a catch up and to participate in job club where they are supported to apply for relevant opportunities. Our stage 3 course trainees also have the opportunity to have a taster of our media training.

Early Interventions
The shmuTRAIN Positive Progressions programme targets and engages young people in the Senior Phase who have been identified as being unlikely to secure a positive destination when leaving school. The programme offers an academic year-long course, which combine skills development with employability support, supported by staff from shmu based within the school.
