Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2021
It’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2021 from 1st-5th March; a time to share the value apprenticeships can bring to individuals, employers and the economy.
This year’s theme is Business Backing Talent, to showcase the great things that happen when employers back talent through apprenticeships.
Businesses have adapted to challenging times. Employers and learning providers have innovated so apprentices can learn, achieve and progress, while businesses taking on apprentices have developed new and safe ways to recruit in their commitment to backing talent.
There's more support from Scottish Government and Skills Development Scotland to help individuals get the chance of an apprenticeship and for businesses to benefit from employing apprentices.
Scottish Apprenticeship Week is the time for all those in Scotland benefiting from apprenticeships to join together and share their stories to encourage others to get involved.

shmu has been committed to the development of employment opportunities for many years through its employability programmes. It was therefore a good fit when we were commissioned by Aberdeenshire Council to run Foundation Apprenticeships in Creative and Digital Media and IT & software development.
These programmes are becoming very popular and are an extremely useful way for senior school pupils to gain additional qualifications and work experience at the same time. To date we have worked with pupils from Banff, Ellon, Mackie, Portlethen and Westhill Academies with the prospect of an expanded programme in the next school session.
Here’s Megan talking about her experience on the Creative and Digital Media Foundation Apprenticeship course at shmu, and how it suited her learning style:
