Mastrick Matters coming soon

The winter edition of Mastrick Matters is off to print and will be on its way to the fine residents of Mastrick in early January. If you can’t wait that long for our fabulous print copy, our digital version is now available to read online or download via our new website. You can read it hereThis issue is packed to the rafters with all the latest plans from Mastrick Parish Church for their 60th birthday next year, which will include a memorabilia exhibition. There is a great feature about the Mastrick walking groups, detailing some of their scenic destinations from this year. Trek a boots meets on a Tuesday and is a more advanced walking group. For those who prefer to amble rather than full-on ramble, there are the Mastrick Gamblers or the Mastrick Strollers, who have a much easier pace. Details on how to join are in the feature.
There is also a picture piece on the win at the Wishaw Games for the Disability Inspiring Sports and Social Club (DISSC). You lucky readers also get a Christmas Quiz, a recipe for delicious Gingerbread and all the usual information on local events and serviced, like the Silver City Surfers and loads of other activities and groups. Plenty to keep you entertained on frosty winter evenings!
Like what you read and what we do? Then get involved in your community publication! Do you know that shmuPRESS have over 45 active volunteers working on our community magazines in the seven regeneration areas of our city? Our volunteers work hard throughout the year alongside our shmuPRESS and shmuDESIGN teams to produce seven full colour magazines filled to the brim with all the latest community news, opportunities, issues and stories relevant to you and your local community.
Each magazine is produced three times per year, delivering 21 publications citywide per annum. They contain local stories and relevant information, granting the city a rare and personalised insight into the heart of our communities. The best aspect of this is delivering each area a platform to air their views, concerns and report on issues that are important to them. It is also an opportunity to present an insider’s view of each community and showcase some of the amazing work happening within them.
The process begins with a group meeting, and the volunteers are responsible for sourcing material and deciding on what goes into each publication. Working in conjunction with our shmu team, volunteers involved with shmuPRESS can receive training in journalism and learn exactly how their community magazine is constructed. Budding photographers can also get involved in their locality and provide images for the magazines. There are a number of ways that you can become involved in your local publication, contact Mary Clare by email at maryclare@shmu.org.uk or call on 01224 515013 for more information.
