NESDVA secure People's Millions win

shmu volunteer helps with bid

Alexander Grant, one of shmu’s Seaton Scene volunteers was involved in the winning bid for funding which secured local group, North East Scotland Disabled Veterans (NESDVA) a huge sum of £39,993 for their project. The People’s Millions initiative sees local charities; projects and organisations compete for funding this week on STV. Viewers are asked to vote for their chosen cause, and the project with the most votes wins.

This project will allow the group to buy a brand new 17-seat minibus with a tail-lift for disabled access. Over 40 members of NESDVA will have a new lease of life, with the minibus allowing members to attend club meetings, outings and events in Aberdeen or even further afield. It will also be utilised on a practical as well as social level by providing veterans with transport to and from doctor and hospital appointments. NESDVA members have served in wars and conflicts from World War Two to Afghanistan.

Alexander volunteers as part of the editorial team which produces community magazine Seaton Scene, one of seven editions of community magazines in the regeneration areas of Aberdeen. A feature on NESDVA’s trip to Staffordshire’s National Memorial Arboretum can be found here

Thanks to the success of the project and the hard work of the people behind the funding application, the group will have many more trips like this to look forward to! To find out more about the People’s Millions, visit their website http://www.peoplesmillions.org.uk/2013-finalists/stv-north
