Positive Transitions Graduation
On Monday 27th November 2017 we gathered together trainees from our recent Positive Transitions courses 29, 30, 31 and 32 to celebrate and share in their successes. Such a grand occasion deserves a grand venue and we were lucky enough to be allowed use of the Town House which looked all the more impressive decked out in its festive decorations. The trainees were joined by some disguinshed guests including their own friends and family to celebrate and listen to the stories.
David Chapman, general manager of Jump In trampoline parks, spoke about his experience in hosting work placements for some of our trainees, we heard from Liz Dean-Stevens representing our funders Inspiring Scotland, shmu's very own Jillian Evans, chair of the board of trustees also spoke and Alan Donnelly, deputy Lord Provost, kindly attended to present our trainess with their certificates.
More importantly we also heard some inspiring stories about our trainees journey through the course and beyond, from the 4 courses 29 young people moved onto a positive destination of either employment, further training or college. As always it was an amazing evening wherer we heard the words inspiring and confidence over and over again! Before and after the event attendees were given the opportunity to offer their feedback and here are just a few of the wonderful comments:
“Inspirational, emotional and a great night all round”. Charlie Martin Wise Group
“What a great night and awesome outcomes for those involved. Shmu is a fantastic foundation for young adults to which First Aberdeen are proud to be connected with. Keep up the great work” Craig Duthie First Bus
“From uncertainty to confidence and possibility in 12 weeks-AMAZING”
“Best 12 weeks of my life” Kieran PT31
“Great course all the media and placements-not just another CV skills course”

Early Interventions
The shmuTRAIN Positive Progressions programme targets and engages young people in the Senior Phase who have been identified as being unlikely to secure a positive destination when leaving school. The programme offers an academic year-long course, which combine skills development with employability support, supported by staff from shmu based within the school.
