BFI Academy 2020 - Apply Now!

Aged 16-19? Passionate about film? Want to work in the film industry?

There are still a few spaces left for this year’s Aberdeen BFI Film Academy and applicants are encouraged to get an application in by Sunday 4th October if they’d like to be considered for a place on this popular course.

This project is aimed at 16-19 year olds who have an aspiration to work in the film industry and takes place in the evening and/or at weekends.

It will develop their knowledge and skills in filmmaking and give them access to specialist masterclasses delivered by industry practitioners. The course will run from Oct 2020 - Feb 2021.

If you have a passion for film, this high-quality course will develop your understanding of key craft areas such screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing and sound.  With masterclasses from filmmaking practitioners, participants will be supported through the process of developing and producing a short film which will be screened at the Belmont Filmhouse at the end of the project in March 2021.

Films from previous years have been shown at Film Festivals all over the world with Metropolitan Spaghetti (2018) winning the Audience Award at the FANS Film Festival in Glasgow, and Life’s A Drag (2019) screening at the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival.

In addition to the practical experience on the course, participants will also secure an NPA in Television Production at NCQF Level 5 and, will become part of a BFI Alumini group, which opens up a range of additional opportunities for the young person following the course.

We are dedicated making our courses inclusive and accessible to all and welcome applications from all backgrounds and levels of experience.
