Aberdeen Learning Festival

Our dedicated team at shmuTRAIN attended the Aberdeen Learning Festival on the 18^th February at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC). The festival is a great networking event for organisations involved in all aspects of learning.

shmuTRAIN's newest recruit

Due to the success of shmuTRAIN's work in schools around the city and our employability courses at Station House and TYP, we had to take on extra staff to take the pressure off our hardworking shmuTRAIN duo, Brian Webb and Michelle Trail. The bar was set very high to make the two into a trio, and we had some great applicants, but unfortunately, we were only allowed to pick one.

We first started working with Aaron at the beginning of 2012 on our Early Interventions programme in Torry Academy. Aaron then joined our Positive Transitions course starting in January 2013.

Last trainees of 2013 Graduate

The last trainees of 2013 donned their best glad rags to celebrate their graduation in style at the Town and County Hall this December. Our trainees were supported by friends and families, who were invited to cheer on our young people as they collected their certificates.

A number of our young people were donning their best clobber and braving the hailstones, gale force winds and snow to make the trip to the BP headquarters at Dyce this morning.

shmu trainees go 'down to the woods'

Trainees from our Positive Transitions 16 course have been out and about during their busy timetable, and managed to squeeze in a visit to Tullos Hill Wood, which was highly commended earlier this year at the Scotland’s Finest Wood Awards.

shmuTRAIN were shortlisted for the Raising Achievement award as part of the 2013 Children and Young Peoples Services Awards Programme.

Positive Transitions 15 – Graduation Ceremony

Monday October 7th will see our current group of trainees graduate from the 15th Positive Transitions course. The graduation will be a formal affair with trainees choosing a colour scheme (PT 13, pictured, chose blue and black) and dressing up in their finest - we even treat them to a slap up dinner just before the ceremony.

shmuTRAIN is packed with opportunities

The new school term is now well underway and shmuTRAIN are working with pupils from Torry, St Machar, and Northfield. For the first time this year we are working with pupils from Kincorth Academy. Pupils from Torry and Kincorth academies will be delving into radio training, so be sure to listen out on shmuFM for their debut on the airwaves during our Early Interventions radio show.

Early Interventions – We’re back!

After a very hot summer baking away in our offices we are soon to be heading out and about again into schools to begin our Early Interventions programme for the 2013-14 academic year. We are going into Torry Academy, St Machar Academy and Northfield Academy as usual and are also heading up to Kincorth Academy for the first time this year.

Early Interventions

The shmuTRAIN Positive Progressions programme targets and engages young people in the Senior Phase who have been identified as being unlikely to secure a positive destination when leaving school. The programme offers an academic year-long course, which combine skills development with employability support, supported by staff from shmu based within the school.
